A trail favorite, the redesigned Palisade 80 backpack offers all the features you would expect from a hardcore load hauler but with a fresh new look. The Palisade 80 is equipped with Gregory's Response CFS suspension system, which includes such features as a quick-adjust, five-point angle waist belt and an ultra-soft pre-curved 3D harness. By adjusting to five different hip belt angles with ease, the waist belt combines with the harness to provide maximum comfort by eliminating wrinkles and hot spots on the main contact areas of the hips and shoulders. As a result, the pack feels as comfortable at the end of the hike as it did at the beginning. The Response CFS system also employs twin aluminum stays that are supported by a horizontal anti-barreling cross stay, ensuring that the pack will not barrel under extreme weight.

Storage-wise, the Palisade 80 includes a large main compartment, a front pocket with a stash pouch, a top pocket that converts to a fanny pack, dual waist-belt pockets, a hideaway water bottle holder, and a stash pocket. The pack is even hydration compatible, with a built-in hydration sleeve and dual exit ports. Other features include top, front, and bottom access; a water- and wear-resistant bottom panel; water-resistant zippers; and a sturdy exterior made of 210D HT double diamond ripstop and broken twill nylon fabrics. All Gregory packs carry a lifetime warranty.

Company founder Wayne Gregory--who designed his first backpack at 14 as part of a Boy Scout project--opened Gregory Mountain Products in 1977 in San Diego, California. From the start, Wayne wasn't just meticulous about designing packs that improved upon fit and used the best materials available, he also wanted to know how his designs worked in the field and what he could do better, a heritage of accessibility that has continued to the present. In the early days, he loved to talk tech with customers at his retail store in San Diego, asking for feedback on what worked and what didn't. Ultimate, Wayne realized that fit was king in the backpack business, and he pioneered many firsts, including being the first company to build backpacks in different frame, harness, and waist belt sizes; the first (and still only) pack manufacturer to develop a waist-belt system that adjusts to fit different hip angles, automatically improving load transfer; and developing the center-locking bar tack, a stitch that ends and locks off on the center of a seam instead of the side to improve strength at the major stress points.
